Traineeship in public relations

Would you like to complete a traineeship in public relations? GIZ is offering an opportunity to do just that! Read on to find out more about the position and how to apply.

PR traineeship

As a PR trainee, you will support GIZ’s Corporate Communications Unit. The Unit’s role is to communicate effectively both within the company and with the outside world about GIZ, its services and successes, and its principles and values. Corporate Communications shapes GIZ’s communications strategy. It uses press and public relations instruments to position GIZ externally and provide information about its work and methods. Internally, it uses appropriate communications instruments to keep GIZ staff members up to date and boost their identification with the company.

During this 24-month traineeship in public relations, you will learn about the various aspects of corporate communications, including writing documents such as articles for GIZ’s in-house magazine, press releases and texts for online media and publications. You will carry out research, handle enquiries from journalists and help design communications concepts. You will help to plan and organise events and be involved in the production of both internal and external media. You will also familiarise yourself with the issues involved in presenting a uniform external image of the company. The traineeship will be based in Eschborn, but you will also learn about GIZ’s work at its Bonn and Berlin locations. You will also have an opportunity to complete a two-month assignment providing communications support for a project in one of our partner countries. The traineeship will develop your skills as a PR advisor. You will participate in training courses provided by an accredited PR examination institute and will take the examination to qualify you as a certified PR advisor. GIZ will meet the cost of the course and examination fees. The training allowance is currently EUR 2,200 per month.

You must have a university degree in a humanities or business studies subject. You will have already gained initial practical experience of communications work with a PR agency, a company or a media organisation. You have an interest in development cooperation and, ideally, some insight into relevant issues. You are confident in your language skills, have excellent writing skills and are willing to familiarise yourself with new areas and issues.
